Unique Vacations Terminates Wholesaler Agreement with Apple Vacations

Unique Vacations Inc., worldwide representative of Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts, has terminated their wholesaler agreement with Apple Vacations.

According to a statement issued on behalf of Unique Vacations, Inc., the move “is part of an overall strategy to partner with fewer companies that give priority to UVI, providing ample opportunity and venues to distinguish the brands under its banner, particularly Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts, in a crowded marketplace.”

Travel Agent spoke briefly to Mark Noennig, general manager/vice president of Apple Vacations, who told us, “There isn’t really much for us to stay. They bascially told us the same thing they told you. We have accepted it and moved on.”

Tim Mullen, senior vice president for Apple, issued this statement to Travel Agent magazine:

“On July 20, Apple Vacations was notified by Sandals/Beaches Resorts without reason that we would no longer be able to sell their properties,” says Mullen in the statement. “Apple Vacations continues to increase production to Jamaica each year. Specifically, Apple has increased its 2010 production by 34 percent over 2009 and advanced sales are up more than 20 percent for 2011. So this decision by Sandals surprises us. The quality of the products in Jamaica has improved tremendously in the last couple years and demand for the destination continues to grow. Apple is encouraged by the growth of its Jamaica business and the travel agent support we continue to receive for this unique island. “
