Silversea Purchases Expedition Ship

Silversea Cruises is making a play in Antarctica with the acquisition of the expedition ship World Discoverer, the luxury line announced Tuesday. Before beginning service in spring 2008, the ship will undergo a multi-million dollar refurbishment. "It means we'll be able to further tap that segment of the luxury travel market that is adventure driven," said Manfredi Lefebvre, Silversea's chairman. The addition will bring Silversea's fleet total to five ships, six by 2009. Earlier this year, Perasso announced that Silversea would take on the delivery of a new ship in 2009, with an option for another to follow.
