Aruba has announced that tourism to the island is off to a strong start in 2010, with worldwide arrivals up 6.17 percent in January to March, over the same time period in 2009— some of the strongest numbers in the Caribbean.
For the U.S. market, tourism arrivals were up 6.63 percent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter last year.
Aruba has welcomed a total of 216,364 worldwide visitors in the first quarter of 2010, compared to 203,788 during that time in 2009; including 150,300 visitors from the U.S. Aruba is serviced by 25 airlines, along with charter flights and cruise ships. The island currently offers nonstop flights from 13 U.S. gateways, which remains Aruba's top visitor market, and has recently welcomed new and increased airlift service from New York, Boston, Atlanta and Orlando, as well as from markets in Europe and Latin America.
Tourism is Aruba's leading industry and the island is currently undergoing a major development program designed to rejuvenate the downtown center of Oranjestad, as well as expand and enhance its tourism product and facilities.
