ASTA to Honor Industry Stars at Miami Convention

blue ribbonExemplary individuals, Chapters and suppliers from the world of travel will receive industry recognition during ASTA's Global Convention in Miami, Sept. 16-19, ASTA reports. The awards will showcase stars from the world of travel with five  awards to  be presented at its Global Convention.

“People who devote their careers to the travel industry share a love of travel and dedication to service. We are extremely pleased to honor those who go above and beyond,” said Nina Meyer, ASTA chairman of the board. “Accolades from one's peers provide validation and help set standards for the industry,” Meyer continued. 

According to ASTA CEO and President Zane Kerby, “Nominations from around the world have been robust. We are delighted with the enthusiastic response.”

The following five awards will be presented: 

Extra Mile Award: For the travel agent who has gone above and beyond for their clients. Awards are based on votes received from thousands of consumers and travel agent peers. Presented at the General Session on Wednesday, Sept 18 and sponsored by Auto Europe. 

Young Professional of the Year Award: For the young professional agent who demonstrates exceptional enthusiasm for the industry and engagement in ASTA. The nominees will be selected by their peers, and a committee of past winners will select the winner and two runners-up.  Presented at the Opening General Session on Tuesday, Sept 17. 

Chapter Advocacy Award: For the ASTA Chapter that has gone above and beyond in its support for ASTA’s advocacy efforts, including ASTAPAC fundraising, grassroots lobbying and new member recruitment. Nominees and winner selected by ASTA based on a quantitative data analysis. Presented at the Advocacy Dinner, Tuesday, Sept 17.

Chapter President Award: For the Chapter President who leads the pack in terms of meetings/ events, new member recruitment and retention. Nominations and winner selected by the head of the Chapter Presidents Council. Presented at the Opening General Session on Tuesday, Sept 17.

Innovations Award: For the most innovative travel company. Hundreds of suppliers have been nominated by travel agents and consumers. This award is sponsored by Comcast Spotlight, a leading provider of advanced technologies. This award will be presented at the General Session Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept 18.

All winners will receive commemorative awards and professional recognition.

ASTA’s sister association, the National Association of Career Travel Agents, (NACTA) who represents a professional community of independent and home-based agents, will, for the first time, offer signature events back-to-back with ASTA with transportation provided between events: ASTA’s Global Convention is in Miami, 16-19; NACTA’s Annual Convention is in Ft. Lauderdale, 19-22 Sept 2013.
