The U.S. Travel Association wants to create 1.3 million new travel industry jobs.

On May 12, the U.S. Travel Association said that it will release a comprehensive report, "Ready for Takeoff," which will outline a series of visa policy recommendations to help the U.S. achieve its goal of becoming more competitive in the global travel market. Implementation of the report's key recommendations will expand U.S. exports, create 1 million new jobs and drive economic growth, the organization said.

U.S. Travel also reported that it will relaunch the Discover America Partnership, which was previously active from 2006 to 2008. Joining the new partnership at the leadership level are the American Hotel and Lodging Association, Consumer Electronics Association, International Association of Exhibitions and Events, National Retail Federation and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, with the U.S. Travel Association serving as chair.

The larger membership will include hundreds of corporate and association partners. The partnership's goal is to:

1. Educate policymakers and opinion leaders on the economic significance of tourism and business travel to the U.S.

2. Highlight the barriers that prevent the U.S. from maximizing its potential in the global travel market.

3. Present high-impact solutions with low or no cost that will enable the U.S. to create hundreds of thousands of sustainable American jobs.

Expected participants include: Roger Dow, president & CEO, U.S. Travel Association; Joseph McInerney, president & CEO, American Hotel & Lodging Association; Steven Hacker, president, International Association of Exhibitions and Events; and Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association.
