Enterprise Rent-A-Car Opens First New Zealand Location

Hot on the heels of debuting in Australia earlier this year, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has opened its first location in New Zealand — part of the company’s broader expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.

The vanguard Enterprise rental office opened this week at Queenstown Airport, the gateway to the South Island resort community of the same name and the fourth-busiest airport in New Zealand. Rental offerings will include small and large sedans, SUVs, and 4WD vehicles — the latter should especially appeal to travelers heading into the Southern Alps to ski.

In addition to Enterprise customers, the Queenstown Airport office will serve clients renting from sister brands National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car, as well as Australia’s Redspot Car Rentals. Enterprise officials said the company plans to rapidly expand in airport locations on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand within the next year.

Since launching in Australia in February, Enterprise has already opened 18 locations nationwide. With all of its brands taken into account, Enterprise is now the largest car-rental company in the world, with 9,000 offices in 80 countries in North America, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

In addition to being an adventure-sports destination (bungee jumping, mountain biking, and skydiving are among the area’s attractions), the Queenstown region has a small wine-growing region and features a number of Lord of the Rings shooting locations. Queenstown Airport is served by Air New Zealand, Quantas, Virgin Australia, Glenorchy Air, and Jetstar, as well as flights by Tauck Tours.
