Tourism Australia Launches More "Best Jobs in the World," Seeks Travelers to Fill Them

Four years ago, Tourism Queensland earned plenty of attention with a global competition to find an Island Caretaker for the Great Barrier Reef. Ben Southall got what was called “The Best Job in the World,” and Queensland - and Australia as a nation - got to show off what makes it special to the world at large.

Today, Tourism Australia will launch the next phase in the “The Best Job in the World” global competition for job titles, including “Chief Funster” and “Taste Master.” Representing the very best of the country, the six "Best Jobs in the World" each come with a six-month package worth a salary of a $100,000 as well as living costs.

The available jobs are:

·     Chief Funster (New South Wales)

·     Outback Adventurer (Northern Territory)

·     Park Ranger (Queensland)

·     Wildlife Caretaker (South Australia)

·     Lifestyle Photographer (Victoria)

·     Taste Master (Western Australia)

Working and Playing

While Tourism Australia will only be filling six “Best Jobs in the World,” the program highlights opportunities for visitors to spend an extended Australian holiday by combining their travels with temporary work opportunities. Australia has 36,000 jobs available in its tourism industry (both short-term and long-term), and a reported 40 percent of Americans aged 18-24 want to work overseas. Travel agents can help their interested clients obtain Working Holiday visas (which allow travelers to stay and work for up to a year in Australia), and Tourism Australia can help both the agents and the travelers arrange the trip and the obligatory sightseeing that would go with it. (After all, if one is going to spend a year working in Uluru, shouldn’t one take a weekend visit to Tasmania?)
