Los Cabos Hosts Tourism Summit

Los Cabos Tourism recently hosted its 8th Annual Los Cabos VIP Summit on November 19-22. 

The event brought together wholesalers and airline partners from around the world, including Mexico, the U.S., Canada, Russia, Brazil, and Australia, bringing a total of 38 participants together. Over the course of the Summit, 95 meetings were conducted and important negotiations were made for the 2015 and 2016 travel seasons.

This year's Summit was aimed at boosting tourism throughout the destination, and was inaugurated on November 20 by Ruben Reachi Lugo, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Baja California Sur, accompanied by Eduardo Segura Vehovec, managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board (FITURCA) and Renato Mendonça, president of the Hotel Association of Los Cabos (AHLC).

Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, regional director for North America, the Tourism Board of Mexico (CPTM) addressed the Mexico Tourism Board's recently launched promotion campaign "Los Cabos #Unstoppable" and made a presentation reporting the positive number of visitors to Los Cabos from the United States, Canada, and Mexico from January to September 2014.

The event also included the announcement of increased airlift for 2015, such as Alaska Airlines from Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington and Delta Airlines from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, launching this month. Additionally, Spirit Airlines announced a new flight from Houston and Mexico's Volaris airline reported the launch of two scheduled flights in March 2015 from Culiacan to La Paz four times a week.

The destination also announced the opening of two new golf courses; Quivira, which opened on December 4, the sixth designed by Jack Nicklaus in the destination, and El Cardonal at Diamante, which is expected to open on December 16, the first international golf course designed by Tiger Woods. In hotel news, the JW Marriott located in Puerto Los Cabos announced a soft opening scheduled for June 2015 with 299 rooms.

Attendees included representatives from tour operators such as Apple Vacations, The Mark Travel Corporation (Funjet) and MLT, including others. Also in attendance were Orbitz, Expedia and Bookit.com, among others.

Invited airlines included Alaska Airlines, Sunwing, US Airways / American Airlines, Air Canada, WestJet, and Volaris.
