Los Cabos is bullish on raising its upscale profile. Some new hotels targeting the well-heeled traveler have opened over the last several months and more are on the way. Meanwhile, new and established properties alike are ramping up their luxury offerings. Here are some of the more noteworthy developments.
In March, AMResorts officially inaugurated Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort in grand style with none other than Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Every guest has a private in-suite balcony or terrace, 24-hour room service, daily refreshed minibar and more. AMResorts’ Unlimited-Luxury concept ensures that guests can enjoy all the food and top-shelf alcohol they want at 13 restaurants, bars and lounges. There is also the Secrets Spa by Pevonia, a beach and two pools.
Over the winter, Las Ventanas al Paraiso unveiled 12 new exclusive luxury villas. They range from one to three bedrooms and have a private infinity pool and swim-up bar, as well as an open-air bathroom with steam and rain showers, infinity bathtub, private outdoor garden patio and access to the beach. Amenities include a 24-hour butler who delivers complimentary breakfast daily, home-made guacamole and margaritas in the afternoon, and daily surprises for guests; a 30-minute in-villa massage; packing and unpacking services; and a complimentary experience every afternoon, such as a private in-villa ceviche cooking class or a picnic at the beach.
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos opened in November 2013, marking Hyatt’s entry into the luxury all-inclusive realm. It offers six à la carte and two gourmet buffet restaurants, a spa, sunrise yoga, seven swimming pools, children’s programs, and nightly entertainment in the on-property Grand Theater. Accommodations include Premium Level Swim-Up Suites with lounge privileges, personalized concierge services, VIP in-room refreshment center, and private check-in and check-out.
Butlers and Other Indulgences
Capella Pedregal recently implemented a new Butler Program at three of its beachfront villas. The butler is on hand to arrange everything from unpacking to dinner reservations.

Esperanza, An Auberge Resort’s new running concierge motivates guests who want to stay in shape while on vacation. The concierge guides them on runs around the property and adjacent areas, providing tips as well as equipment.
At One&Only Palmilla, guests have access to a 24-hour private butler and unique amenities such as a sheets menu, tequila setup, afternoon snacks and more. The resort also offers guests a library and game room and such poolside services as massage, sunglass cleaning and more. The resort’s best room is the four-bedroom Villa Cortez, which offers a media room, private spa and fitness center.
Spa and wine lovers can indulge in the Somma WineSpa at Fiesta Americana Grand, the only spa in Mexico that incorporates wine into its treatments. Its signature 80-minute Le Vin Chardonnay treatment uses that particular dry white wine in a variety of massages.
