Couples Resorts Eyes New Property, Expansion Beyond Jamaica

October 22, 2008 By: Joe Pike

Travel Agent sat down with representatives of Couples Resorts Wednesday and learned that the all-inclusive company is looking into building on 38 acres of property it owns adjacent to the Harmony Cove development in Jamaica.

Harmony Cove, a multi-billion dollar development project, is expected to be one of the largest projects in the history of the destination and for Couples to get a property practically on the site would be very big news. Randall L. Russell, sales and marketing director of Couples, said the company is “looking into some sort of a land swap deal (with Harmony Cove developers)” and is planning for a 370-room resort to be built on the vacant land.

Russell also told us that the resort company, which is currently exclusively Jamaica-based, is looking to expand to other islands. Russell stressed to us that the plans are purely in the brainstorming stages but said the company “is always willing to expand beyond Jamaica as long is it is the right destination.” He told us Grenada, St. Lucia and Antigua would be possible sites that the all-inclusive giant would consider.
