Such amenities as oceanfront and jungle terraces (some with private outdoor plunge pools), whirlpool bathtubs, 42-inch flat-screen plasma TVs, Wi-Fi, deluxe toiletries by Molton Brown, Nespresso machines and more complement the guest room experience.

Clients can choose to stay in a private, adults-only suite (allows teens 12 and up) with oceanfront views, a spacious family-friendly suite offering ocean views, or the Zen Garden ambiance, a favorite of business travelers due to its proximity to the resort’s conference center. Be sure to let the adults know that “all-inclusive” here not only covers meals and such, but also top-shelf, premium liquor and wines.

For Foodies

World-renowned Spanish chefs create haute Spanish cuisine at the resort’s signature restaurant, Cocina de Autor by Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso. Other on-property fine-dining options include Frida, offering Mexican fine-dining in a contemporary and relaxing atmosphere by Chef Ricardo de la Vega, and Piaf, which serves gourmet French specialties from Chef Michel Mustiere.

Similar to its French chanteuse namesake, the dining experience at Piaf is bold and artistic. At Sen Lin Restaurant, the resort’s tribute to upscale Asian dining, Chef Isaac Esparza borrows from the most significant aspects of Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine to reinterpret the best of northeastern and southeastern Asian cuisine. Lucca’s menu of Northern Italian dishes includes specialty seafood, gourmet meats, and homemade pastas from Chef Aurelio Arista in an elegant fine-dining atmosphere.

Other dining choices include Chaká (Mexican regional cuisine), Bistro (casual French) and Azul (classic Mexican and international).

Additionally, Velas Resorts has teamed with Tres Generaciones tequila and luxury spa brand Natura Bissé to offer a series of sensory culinary experiences that combine haute cuisine, fine tequila, ambient music and the aromas of natural essences.

For a great bar scene at the resort, clients should check out the Karaoke lounge. Resort specialties include margarita menus, sake and food pairings and the new mescal cocktails.

The resort recommends that arrangements be made prior to arrival, at least three days in advance. Agents should reach out to the E-Concierge Glenda Montemegro ([email protected], 011-52-984-877-4400, ext. 8137) for all kinds of requests.

The Spa

Surrounded by a verdant jungle, Spa Grand Velas Riviera Maya covers more than 90,000 square feet of space with 40 treatment rooms and suites complemented by native artwork and furnishings. The spa experience begins with personalized spa valet service and personal care amenities such as plush robes and spa sandals.

Clients refresh in the spa’s adjoining men’s and women’s hydrotherapy facilities, which feature dry saunas, cold plunge pools, vitality pools, whirlpools, herbal steam rooms with color-therapy, clay and ice rooms, and experience showers. Juice and fruit bars are located in men’s and women’s sensory relaxation rooms. Both areas also include skin care diagnostic and consultation rooms.

A women’s meditation room is available as well. For a VIP spa experience, there are luxurious spa treatment suites for privacy and relaxation.

Many of the treatments use products from the earth, traditional in the Mayan culture. These include coffee, cocoa, lemon herb, vanilla, organic mud and honey, and in an unusual twist in a marine treatment, the spa offers Fish Therapy, where the fish remove one’s dead skin, also increasing circulation. The Vitamin C Facial comes with two gourmet tastes during treatment. It starts with a sorbet of any fruit containing vitamin C (e.g., lemon, orange and strawberry) and continues in the second phase of the treatment with a taste of guayaba, ending with the citrus mint tea pairing.

Another treatment is the Riviera Maya Water Journey, which takes guests through a revitalizing hydrotherapy ritual that invigorates the body, soothes aching muscles, detoxifies impurities and promotes health and well-being. The Riviera Maya Water Journey is designed for relaxation and calm, so clients are encouraged to rest between hydrotherapy stations in a comfortable lounge chair, where they can enjoy a refreshing beverage and the soothing effects of a cool facial towel.

To book treatments, agents should get in touch with Spa Manager Leticia Fernandez ([email protected], 011-52-984-877-4430).

All private transfers are done in a Suburban, which fits five people. If the client would prefer private transportation, it must be booked at least two days in advance. Agents looking to book a vehicle or a private helicopter should contact Mayra Almazam ([email protected], 011-52-984-877-4400, ext. 8139), the transfer department manager at Grand Velas.
