New Developments for Flemish Tourism

In March 2009, the Tourist Office for Flanders will relocate its offices to the West Side of Manhattan and move into the New York Times building. The Tourist Office for Flanders will join two partners at the New York Times building under one roof. At “The Flemish House,” agents will find the Tourist Office, the offices of Flanders Investment and Trade and a Cultural Section devoted to bringing exciting events from Flanders to New York.

In Flemish art news, the Groeninge Museum in Bruges will be exhibiting a collection of paintings, drawings, tapestries by Johannes Stradanus through January 2009. From November through March 2009, St. Peter’s Abbey in Ghent will show Flemish Tapestries from the Burgundian Dukes. The Paintings of Rogier van der Weyden will on display at M, the new museum of Leuven, through December 6, 2009. The Magritte Museum in Brussels will be the permanent home for a collection of about 150 paintings by surrealist painter René Magritte when it opens in June 2009.

September 2009 will see the opening of SQUARE, a new convention center right in the heart of Brussels.
