Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Unfazed by Wrecking Ball

April 9, 2009 By: Mark Rogers

During a visit to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Travel Agent got the skinny on plans for the hotel. Although developer Michael Rosenfeld tried to keep his purchase of the property quiet, news like that doesn’t hold long. Rosenfeld bought the property for $366.5 million. His plans call for razing the Los Angeles icon to the ground and replacing it with two 50-story residential towers. It’s all part of a $2 billion plan that also calls for a luxury boutique hotel as part of the mix. The project, which has a 2015 completion date, still faces some hurdles from conservancy groups.

Surprisingly, the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza refuses to sit on its laurels and wait for the wrecking ball. Travel Agent got the advance word that the property plans to redo its popular pool area. A series of new cabanas will have two love seats for lounge style seating, day bed, ceiling fans, high-speed Internet and WiFi, a state-of-the-art sound system, plasma screen TVs and a personal refrigerator. The hotel’s infinity edge pool will receive brand new European designed chaise lounge furniture, with custom made cushions and pillows in a variety of bright colors.

This summer the hotel also plans to organize poolside events for kids that may include group fitness exercise programs by Equinox Fitness Club + Spa, The Century Plaza's exclusive partner; hair-braiding; ping pong and air brush tattoos.
