Virgin America Volunteers for Fifth Consecutive Earth DayApril 16, 2012 By: Danielle Stepongzi
For the fifth consecutive year, Virgin America has partnered with the California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) to celebrate its 15th Annual Earth Day with environmental restoration and cleanup projects.
Virgin America's environmental efforts are taking place across the country in Angle Lake Park in Seattle, Busse Woods Park in Chicago, Grapevine Park in Dallas Forth-Worth, Rockaway Beach in New York, Charles River in Boston, and others in Fairfax, Las Vegas, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. However, they are focusing heavily on California in Dockweiler State Beach in Las Angelas, Mission Beach Park in San Diego, and specifically San Francisco's Candlestick Point State Recreation Area.
Planting native trees, installing new redwood garden boxes, landscaping and team-led groups that focus on finding new ways to reduce the company's footprint are just a few things the Virgin America employees and volunteers are doing to celebrate Earth Month.
Virgin America was the first domestic airline to offer guests the ability to offset their carbon in-flight by using the Red(™) setback touch-screen entertainment system to make a donation to CSPF or to offset the carbon emissions of their flight via the nonprofit carbonfund.org.
Since its 2007 launch, Virgin America has made environmentally sustainable practices part of its training and operations.
