Los Angeles is sure to be buzzing next month when the royal newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, head West on their global tour. On Friday, July 8, following a nine-day tour of Canada, Will and Kate will depart Calgary, bound for Los Angeles in an effort to strengthen ties between the U.S. and the UK, particularly in the U.S. West Coast.
While in Los Angeles, the royal couple is expected to take in the sights, see glimpses of Hollywood and meet with some of the state’s most influential political leaders. Their visit marks Kate’s first visit to the U.S.
Upon landing in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, Will and Kate will be met by the British Ambassador who will immediately accompany them to an event in support of UK trade and investment where British and American technologists and venture capitalists will be gathered to find new avenues for investment and create jobs in the U.S. and UK. Their presence will promote the concept of London as a “Tech City,” whereby the Old Street area of London will transform into a hub for developments in technology and software design.
Later on Friday evening, the two will host a working reception at the Consul-General’s Residence in Los Angeles. Invited guests will include some of California’s most influential political leaders. Some insiders propose that the two may meet former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
On Saturday, July 9, the couple will travel to the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club, which is celebrating its centenary and is hosting a “Foundation Polo Cup” in aid of The American Friends of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, a chairtable organization. Will is expected to play, and Kate, who will be in attendance, is expected to hand over the prize to the winning team.

Later that evening, the couple will attend a British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) event. As BAFTA’s president, Prince William will play host to up-and-coming British creative talents and some of Hollywood’s biggest names to promote the British film, television, music and video game industries at a black-tie, red-carpet event followed by a proper sit-down dinner. The event will be set at the restored Belasco Theatre from the 1920s in downtown Los Angeles.
And on their final day spent in Los Angeles, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will spend the majority of their time supporting major charitable organizations. They will host an event in support of Tusk USA. William, who is a patron of Tusk Trust in the UK, supports its work on conservation in Africa. The couple will also visit Inner City Arts where they will personally meet with children participating in its art programs.
For their final scheduled event, the two will attend a “Service Nation: Mission Serve” job fair at the Sony Pictures Studio Lot in Los Angeles where U.S. servicemen and women will be gathered, seeking employment following their returns to civilian life following active military service. Service Nation: Mission Serve is an umbrella organization set up by the U.S. government that brings together a host of different service charities to support the reintegration of servicemen and women to civilian life.
Following their Los Angeles engagements, the two will fly home to the UK.
