The Riu Palace Las Americas has reopened its doors in Cancun, Mexico, after the completion of a $12 million total modernization and renovation of the property. The newest addition to the property following the reopening is the new rebranding of the hotel, which has now become the Riu Hotels & Resort brand’s first property open exclusively for guests 18 years of age and older. The new change, effective immediately, was designed to make the resort a better choice for romantic escapes or an adventure destination for groups of friends.

To celebrate the new “adults-only” branding, the hotel has launched a welcome glass of champagne program for guests of the property as well as a new concierge service, bathrobes and the options of adding a special wine list and romantic dinners on the beach. Also new to the hotel is free Wi-Fi throughout the property, including the swimming pool and beach zones. There’s also premium liquor at all bars and in the dispensers in the guest rooms. On site, all of the swimming pools and garden areas have also been renovated.

The renovations encompass a new style that is fresh and contemporary, introducing new materials and colors into designs through the resort’s 372 rooms and common zones, as well as the lobby and restaurant. New to the hotel thanks to renovations is a zone in the resorts lobby dedicated to pastries and ice cream, called Capuchino. Lounge 24 Bar, which will offer snacks and beverages in evenings is new to the property as well. The buffet restaurant and terrace areas have both been expanded, now offering lunch and dinner in the outdoor sea-air.

The hotel, originally built in 2004 on the beach of Playa de Cancun, still maintains some of its most singular elements, including the famed columns, large crystal lamps, wood ornaments and marble paneling.

The renovations and investment into the Riu Palace Las Americas is just another piece of the chain’s strategic plan to renovate all of its hotels to enhance the quality of their offerings. Once reopened, RIU hopes to surprise its loyal customers with properties that seem more like brand new hotels rather than renovated ones.
