The Cancun Underwater Museum to Add New Sculptures This Summer

According to USAToday, the Cancun Underwater Museum will add 60 new sculptures to its collection this summer.

The museum was created in 2010 with the submerging of about 400 life-size, reinforced cement sculptures. The sculptures are meant to provide a habitat for corals and other marine life as well as to divert scuba divers and snorkelers away from fragile coral reefs.

Among the new works are "The Last Supper", a table setting for two with plates of half-eaten fish and a hand grenade centerpiece. "Urban Reef" is an architectual streetscape. "The Listener" is made entirely from casts of human ears and is equipped with a special underwater listening device which records reef sounds.

The museum receives about 750,000 guests annually.
