John Lynch Steps Down from Unique VacationsNovember 5, 2008 By: Mark Rogers
Says Door Remains Open to Return to Sandals
The Caribbean tourism community heard some surprising news today when it was announced that John D. Lynch will step down, effective November 7, as executive vice president of sales worldwide at Unique Vacations, Inc., worldwide representatives for Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts, The Royal Plantation Collection and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts.
Travel Agent spoke with Lynch to see if he could fill in some of the questions left hanging in the air by the announcement. “I had no falling out with Sandals,” says Lynch. “The door is still open at Sandals and Unique Vacations. I’m leaving my position to take a little break.”
Lynch went on to describe Sandals Resorts as a wonderful forward-looking company, one that he spent 17 years with. The decision to leave Unique Vacations does not affect Lynch’s position as chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. ”That will remain the same,” he says.
For a man professing to take a break, it appears Lynch will still be busier than most. He is also chairman of Jamaica Vacations Limited, also known as JAMVAC. “We’re involved in opening up new gateways to Jamaica,” says Lynch. “Presently, we’re negotiating new direct routes between Vancouver and Montego Bay, as well as new routes in Europe.”
The announcement of Lynch stepping down was made this morning by Kevin Froemming, president of Unique Vacations, Inc. “We are a stronger company today for the efforts of John Lynch,” says Froemming. “His work to distinguish our brands and define new audiences has positioned Unique Vacations well. He is truly an influential and sought-after expert and it has been my privilege to have called him my colleague.”
Speaking from the World Travel Market in London, Stewart praised Lynch for his invaluable service throughout the years. “John Lynch will be missed,” says Stewart. “His experience and knowledge of the marketplace and the Caribbean region has served our company admirably. We wish him all the best that the future can hold.”
