Master Sand Sculptor Returns to Cap Juluca in March

cap julucaDuring March, Matt Long, aka "Sandman Matt," will create one of his crowd-pleasing sand sculptures on Maundays Bay Beach at Cap Juluca resort in Anguilla.

Over a three-day period, Long will build an original showpiece on the beach, and then he’ll teach guests some of the tricks of the sandcastle-building trade before they compete in a Cap Juluca Sandcastle Competition.
 
Long's competition-winning work has been appreciated all over the United States and he was a cast member for two seasons on the television show “Sand Masters,” which originally aired on the Travel Channel in the U.S. and is now seen on TLC around the world.
 
On Wednesday, March 23, there will be a Cap Juluca welcome reception at 6 p.m. for guests staying at the resort to meet the master sand sculptor.
On March 25, Long will unveil his completed Cap Juluca sandcastle near the resort’s Main House by 5 p.m.
 

On March 26, there will be a sandcastle-building clinic at 10:30 a.m. near Cap Juluca’s Blue restaurant. Long will conduct a two-hour sandcastle-building clinic where guests will learn the rudiments of sand sculpting, including the process that is crucial to success, what tools are best for sculpting, how to approach a sculpture idea and what it takes to create a fun and attention-grabbing sculpture.

The Sandcastle Contest will be held later that from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Guests are challenged to put their artistic talents and sand-sculpting skills to the test during a competition while Long will be on the beach to help contestants with their sandcastles. Judges, including Long, will determine the Cap Juluca Sandcastle Competition winners. Prizes will be awarded.
