JAPEX Sees New Attendance Record


Jamaica’s capital city was the center stage for one of the Caribbean’s most popular tourism events as the 18th Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) which saw a record-high 275 suppliers. Also, 103 delegates representing 71 buyer companies attended the three-day event at the Hilton Kingston Hotel. This year, some 150 travel agents from the United States and Canada also attended the travel trade show and met first hand with suppliers.

Director of Tourism Basil Smith said in a written release, “Kingston is always an exciting place to visit. It provides rich and varied cultural offerings from music to theatre to galleries, and can satisfy any gastronomic taste.”  Delegates were also treated to a preview of Caribbean Fashion Week, which takes place at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, June 11-16. Baha Mar Resorts Ltd. to Manage Wyndham Nassau Resort in The Bahamas

Baha Mar Resorts Ltd. announced Thursday it has inked an agreement with Wyndham Hotels and Resorts to manage Wyndham Nassau Resort. Wyndham Hotels and Resorts will manage and oversee the daily operations of the 850-room property including sales, marketing, revenue management and food-and-beverage support. Jeffry Humes has been appointed as managing director of the property and will “work closely with the current management team to ensure a smooth transition with the existing team at the resort and the Wyndham organization,” according to a written release.  Humes has more than 30 years experience working in various management positions within the hospitality and gaming industries. He has been a consultant and operations director for many notable casinos in the U.S., including the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Bally’s Grand Casino Hotel, both in Atlantic City, and the Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Hilton Cuts Ties With Its Tobago Property


­Hilton Hotels Corp. is reportedly terminating its lease agreement with the Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa resort, effective May 16. The hotel will remain open and operational under the management of Hilton until May 15. After that, the hotel will cease operations under the Hilton brand. As of May 16, a new hotel operator, which as has yet to be announced, will begin managing the property. All bookings for travel through May 15 will continue to be handled through Hilton's reservations systems.

Nikki Beach Hotel Planned for New Grenada Development


Peter de Savary, chairman and founder of Port Louis, Grenada, has agreed to an investment development plan that calls for approximately 90 luxury villas (between 4,000-and 6,000-square-foot each) and apartments. The properties will overlook the Port Louis village, the Caribbean Sea and a marina, which offers more than 300 yacht berths. Savary is partnering with Park Town Capital Plc. to develop the project. Nikki Beach, in partnership with The De Savary Group, also plans to construct a six-star resort/hotel/club with up to 180 rooms and suites within Port Louis. Visit

The Latest Deals: Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa, St. Lucia


Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa in St. Lucia is offering a family deal, in which children stay, play and eat for free at the all-inclusive for travel from now through the end of the year. Bookings, however, need to be made by May 31. Rates start at $99 per night. The property renovated the fourth floor of the resort over the past few months, and also updated the adults-only pool by adding a cabana bar.
