Report: Cruises Rake in $3.16 Billion for Caribbean and Latin America

Ftn News is reporting that a triennial study engaged by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) found that cruise tourism generated $3.16 billion in direct expenditures, 75,050 jobs and $976 million in employee wages among participating destinations during the 2014/2015 cruise year throughout the 35 destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America.

The study also found that 23.6 million passengers disembarked ships and visited the destinations. The main driver-average expenditure per passenger is increased to $103.83, 8.25 percent higher than the 2011/2012 cruise year and accounting for $2.45 billion, according to the report. 

According to the Travel Market Report, the average passenger spent $103.83 in port (an 8.25 percent increase over the 2011-2012 cruise year) for a total of $2.45 billion.

Cruise line crews have a significant economic impact of their own, as an estimated 4.5 million crew members spent an additional $302 million in ports, according to the Travel Market Report.
