Sandals Emerald Bay Withstands Hurricane Matthew; Company Issues StatementOctober 6, 2016 By: Newswire
While Hurricane Matthew passed over Exuma as a strong Category 3 storm, Sandals Resorts reports that the resort never lost power and that guests are comfortable, according to the statement.
The Sandals team is now focused on assisting guests with their safe passage home and remains in close dialogue with local authorities regarding the status of Bahamian airports.
Initial review suggests that the resort sustained superficial damage, but a complete assessment will take place as soon as possible. Sandals Resorts Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart, credits preparation as essential to the company’s ability to meet the needs of guests and team members at this time.
“Sandals was and is very prepared,” he said. “Our hurricane management protocol and ability to generate power at every Sandals Resort, allows our team to remain in communication and to provide services critical during a storm like Matthew.”
Sandals Resorts will have further update regarding the currently closed Sandals Royal Bahamian, located in Nassau, The Bahamas, as soon as that information is available.
Beyond the Bahamas, all Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts are open and fully operational including Beaches Turks & Caicos and the company’s properties in Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, Grenada and St. Lucia.
The Sandals Foundation, Sandals Resorts’ philanthropic arm, has begun outreach to its Caribbean neighbors in Haiti and The Bahamas who have been hardest hit by Hurricane Matthew. Contributions may be made at www.sandalsfoundation.org.
