Starwood Hotels & Resorts reassures Caribbean group and leisure travelers with the launch of its 2012 travel interruption policy.
Clients with a confirmed reservation who are unable to travel due to an airport closing or a Starwood hotel closing in the Caribbean will have the option of a full refund or a complimentary guestroom upgrade on their next visit within one calendar year. The guarantee offered by Starwood Hotels & Resorts is based on availability and blackout dates apply.
The Starwood Hotels & Resorts storm guarantee applies to storms validated by the National Hurricane Center, typically a tropical cyclone in which the maximum sustained surface wind is 74 mph (64 knots) or greater. The Caribbean must be placed under a Hurricane Watch or Hurricane Warning by the National Hurricane Center for the storm guarantee policy to be in effect.
“Experts are predicting a slower season than in past years,” said Jim Curtis, area director of sales and marketing, Caribbean Starwood Hotels and Resorts, in a written release. “Even so, we want travelers to understand that Starwood’s cancellation policy ensures a no-risk Caribbean vacation for our guests.”
In the event of a qualifying storm, Starwood hotels and resorts located in the Caribbean will replace the balance of a guest's vacation for the duration of the reservation. This guarantee applies to leisure and group reservations for room and applicable taxes. In addition, in-house guests will not be penalized for an early departure in the event of a storm, and any unused portion of a deposit will be refunded. All replacement vacations at Starwood hotels and resorts must be redeemed within one calendar year and reservations for comparable accommodations will be made on a space available basis.
