Casinos Closed in Atlantic City

July 5, 2006 By: Erin Sternthal Travel Agent

Atlantic City's 12 casinos are closed following New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine's ordered shut down of non-essential state services on July 1. Casinos need state regulators to operate, and as a result of the budget crisis in the state legislature, such state employees are not working. The closure is expected to cost gaming operators like Trump Entertainment Resorts, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and Harrah's Entertainment more than $10 million a day in bets. Non-gaming facilities, such as hotels and restaurants, remain open.
