The Slot Spot: Caribbean Casino Insider

With a little sister on the way, Casino Del Sol in the Isla Verde section of San Juan, Puerto Rico, may fear losing some attention. But though this Puerto Rico casino is getting a younger sibling in the form of the anticipated Casino Del Mar at La Concha Resort in Condado in October, Casino Del Sol is making sure it remains noticed.

Casino Del Sol, often touted as the friendliest casino in Puerto Rico, is currently undergoing a facelift as award-winning designer Jorge Rossello redesigns the property’s decor.

Now, we know the decor is not usually what entices people into a casino, but an outdated appearance could drive them out.

Since opening in 2003, Casino Del Sol has made sure it has kept up with the times. For example, the 12,500-square-foot property offers theme nights and special activities related to such events as The Discovery of Puerto Rico, Halloween and other special occasions, all with live music.

Birthday parties and special private activities are offered to its VIP players. Casino Del Sol has 382 slot machines (penny, nickel, quarter, $1, $5 and $25) and 12 table games (Black Jack, Progressive Black Jack, Roulette, Three-Card Poker, Texas Hold'em Poker and Craps).

In the San Juan area, which is comprised of Condado and Isla Verde, there are 10 casinos currently open. Puerto Rico has 18 casinos in all and another four casinos are going to be open in the next months.

Casino Del Sol is within the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort. It has 260 rooms and 33 suites with the area’s notable Blue Beach just a few minutes away. The property offers a 10 percent commission. Agents should contact Militza Orama, director of sales at the hotel, at 787-253-2304 or [email protected].

Casino Del Sol’s Latest Deal
Casino Del Sol is offering a special package. In order to take advantage of this package, clients need to be a member of the Club Del Sol. Anyone can become a member by signing up at the hotel with the proper credentials, which include a valid photo ID and Social Security number. As part of the package, a club member is entitled to free room and board with a minimum average bet by game and at least four hours of play. For example, if a roulette player with a $75 average bet plays a minimum of four hours per day for four days, they are entitled to a comp standard room (up to four nights) and $125 in food and beverage credit per day.

For a full breakdown on table minimums or for more general information on the deal and the casino, agents should call Gilberto Torres, general manager of Casino Del Sol, at 787-791-7717, ext. 6204, or e-mail him at [email protected].
