Airlines Lobby for China

Four U.S. airlines are waging a public battle for a new daily flight to China, The Wall Street Journal reports. Routes to China are particularly profitable because there are so few. With one from the U.S. opening next year, AMR Corp.'s American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and UAL Corp.'s United Airlines are reaching out to every ally they can find—travelers, airports, employees, politicians, businesses and civic groups—to help make their case to the Department of Transportation, which is expected to make a decision by year end.
