China Seeks to Capitalize on Rise in U.S. Leisure Travel

Chinese delegation from the China National Tourism Administration, lead by Deputy Director General of the International Communication and Cooperation Department Xiong Shanhua.The China National Tourist Office (CNTO) reports that, according to recent studies from sources such as TripAdvisor, PhoCusWright and the U.S. Department of State, U.S. leisure travel is on the rise. China hopes to take advantage of this rise in international leisure travel by improving its touristic offerings, access and conditions of the country.

China has made efforts to reduce air pollution, including closing down more than 8,300 factories, moving others and enacting a national $277 billion environmental plan. Through actions like these, the Chinese government hopes to bring air pollution under control more quickly.

There has been an increase in airline service between the U.S. and China, with carriers expanding their routes and flight frequency. A recent initiative to redevelope the historic Silk Road has begun with a multi-country agreement, events in North America to help people “Rediscover the Silk Road,” and other initiatives to bring investment and tourism to the cultural and historical route.
