Andaz Fifth Avenue Opens

The second Andaz hotel in New York, Andaz 5th Avenue, opened July 5. Once home to the Tommy Hilfiger global headquarters and the largest and last Rogers, Peet & Co department store, the property's 184 guest rooms start at 322 square feet, with 12-foot ceilings and double-glazed windows. This includes 36 suites, six of which overlook The New York Public Library.

Check into the Andaz XL Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite with a terrace view of both the Hudson River and the East River. The Splash Suite contains an egg-shaped, free-standing bathtub in the center of the oversized bathroom, from which to view the New York Public Library and the Empire State Building.

The hotel welcomes guests to check in at their leisure, with no check-in desk. Mixing pre-war architecture with open space, the property features include a 14-foot vermillion painting by Carlos Capelan, a sculpture by Nick Hornby and peek-a-boo shuttered, floor-to-ceiling windows on the Fifth Avenue and 41st Street sides. On the ground floor, the 38-seat restaurant offers local flavor with ingredients from New York State farms and local producers, including Katz's Delicatessen, Sullivan Street Bakery and Pickle Guys
