W Barcelona Set to Open October 2009

W Hotels Worldwide has stepped into Western Europe for the first time. The W Barcelona, a 26-story, sail-shaped building designed by Barcelona-born architect Ricardo Bofill, is set to open in October 2009.

Located on the Nova Bocana of the Port of Barcelona, the new W lies near the La Barceloneta boardwalk and the beaches of Puerto Olimpico. The 473-room hotel will be the only Barcelona hotel with direct access to the beach, and will feature a Bliss Spa, a favorite brand of pamper-friendly New Yorkers.

W Barcelona is now accepting reservations and event bookings for October 1 and beyond. For stays between October 1, 2009, and February 27, 2010, the hotel is offering an opening special for guests: starting at about $415, each guest will receive two cocktails, daily breakfast for two, a complimentary appetizer or dessert with dinner at the W Barcelona's signature restaurant, a gift set to the Bliss Spa, VIP access to the hotel's rooftop bar and a room upgrade.

This will be the second W Hotel location in Europe; the first opened in Istanbul last year. By 2011, the brand plans to expand to Paris, Milan, Manchester, London, Santiago, Vieques Island, Dubai, Doha, Hollywood, South Beach, Shanghai and Bali. Starwood Hotels & Resorts, the parent company of the W brand, already had Spanish locations for five of its nine brands, including Westin, Sheraton and St. Regis.
