YOTEL to debut in New York this JuneApril 8, 2011 By: Melanie Gretchen
YOTEL has announced its U.S. debut this June in New York just located off Times Square. Their newest property, to be located at 42nd Street and 10th Avenue, marks the U.K.-based YO! Company's first opening outside of its current international airport locations in Europe, in London and Amsterdam.
The hotel, which is designed to evoke the style of an airline, will feature 669 cabins. Upon check-in at the property's airline-style kiosks, guests' luggage will be ferried by the hotel's luggage robot. Within the Premium Cabins, motorized moving beds for saving space can be shfited to accommodate preferences for the moonsoon shower, technowall with television, music and power services and a workstation. Each measuring under 200 square feet, the hotel's 18 First Class Cabins and three VIP 2 Cabin Suites come with private outdoor terraces and hot tubs.
YOTEL was designed in collaboration by architecture and design firm Rockwell Group and SoHo-based SOFTROOM Architects London, after a flight upgrading Yotel founder Simon Woodroffe to First class inspired him to merge luxury airline travel and Japanese capsule hotels. Guests can try Woodroffe's inspiration first-hand at Dohyo restaurant (the Japanese word for the Sumo wrestling platform and descriptive of the hotel's table-sharing concept), where tables lower and raise for Japanese style seating and a performance entertainment area during non-dining hours.
During their stay, the Club Lounge's bar, clients can hold meetings and private parties at the DJ booth Club Cabins, as well as the hotel's Studiyo, which is also available for yoga, movie screenings and other events. At The Terrace, guests can enjoy the outdoor space, featuring two bars, pagodas, fire, and blankets throughout the city's colder months.
