LAN Airlines Entering the Colombia Market

May 7, 2010 By: Joe Pike

LAN Airlines recently announced an agreement with Aeroasis, marking its first step into the Colombia passenger business.

LAN Airlines has agreed to provide Aeroasis with “technical support and service consultancy in the process of obtaining an operating permit from the Colombian civil aviation authority.”

Aeroasis is part of the Corso Group, which is a broad conglomerate controlled by businessman from Antioquia, the province in which Medellin is located.

The ultimate goal is to bring Aeroasis into the LAN group. As stated in the press release, “LAN’s firm interest is that once Aeroasis obtains its operating permit, the Colombia airline may become part of the LAN group of airline operators, through association and integration agreements,” which will be subject to approval from local authorities.
