Collette Vacations donated $5,000 in disaster relief aid to the victims of last month’s tornadoes in Joplin, Mo.

“Our hearts go out to our travel agent partners and their families - and all the people affected by the tornado’s devastation,” said Lynne Kelly, community relations manager for Collete. “We hope our contribution encourages other travel companies to follow suit as families and businesses begin the hard work of rebuilding their lives and livelihood.”

The donation was made through the Alice I. Sullivan Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm that was created in 1997 and named after the matriarch of the Collette family, Mrs. Alice I. Sullivan (pictured at right). The donation will go to Convoy of Hope, an organization that delivers much-needed supplies to impoverished and disaster-struck areas. To date, Convoy of Hope has raised $230,048,491 in gifts worldwide.

The Joplin tornado, which was the nation’s single deadliest tornado in nearly 60 years, killed at least 116 people and left many more homeless when it struck the small Missouri town last month.
