A team of employees from Collette Vacations participated in the annual March of Dimes walkathon on April 30, 2011. Calling themselves “The MOD Squad,” the employees from Collette raised more than $7,000, in addition to a $3,000 contribution from the Alice I. Sullivan Foundation, the company’s local philanthropic initiative. The team’s co-captains were Marketing Circulation Analyst Stephanie Mendonca and Executive Vice President of Information Technology, Bill Dziura.
Initially founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to fight polio, the March of Dimes today focuses on research into the genetic causes of birth defects, the promotion of newborn screenings and education on the best practices for healthy pregnancy. Its network of chapters and volunteers reaches more than 1 million people across the country each year.
The run-up to the event included a visit in March from two Ambassador Families for the annual walkathon: the Fleming family from Charlotte, N.C., and the Orabona family from Cranston, R.I. The two families visited the team at their Rhode Island headquarters as part of the team’s fundraising effort for the walkathon, where they met with team co-captain Bill Dziura and Community Relations Manager Lynne Kelly. Dziura described the visit as "a great inspiration to the MOD squad."
