Belize Cancels Sustainable Tourism Conference Due to Flu

April 24, 2009 By: Joe Pike

The Belize Tourism Board announced it will be canceling the Third Annual World Conference for Responsible Tourism, which was supposed to take place from May 19 through May 21. We were told that Belize is canceling all public gatherings in light of the H1N1 flu. We haven't recieved any further details about when, if at all, the conference will be re-scheduled. The conference was  to serve as the venue where the country will launch its new policy on responsible tourism, and was going to feature experts from around the world to speak on local economic development through tourism, the impact of mass tourism on local communities and climate change.
