The travel industry has seen many great friends over the years, but every now and then there is one that truly has an impact on just about everyone. This week during Vacation.com's 15th International Conference and Trade Show in Orlando, Florida, Vacation.com paid tribute to the recently passed Roger Miller of Minnetonka Travel in Minnesota.
In an emotional presentation, Vacation.com President John Lovell introduced the Roger Miller Spirit Award, dedicated to Roger Miller, a 36-year veteran of the industry who passed away in May 2012. In addition to his role as CEO of Minnetonka Travel, Miller also served as a Vacation.com Advisory Board member. Beginning at this year's conference, Vacation.com will bestow this award annually, in his honor, to one of its most outstanding members who embodies the attributes Miller brought to his life, his job and the industry as a whole.
This year's first-ever award went to Miller's fellow Vacation.com Advisory Board member Jeff Sonenstein, president of Globe Travel Service in Bristol, CT. "Jeff Sonenstein is the perfect person to receive the first-ever award in Roger's name. He personifies everything Roger stood for," says Lovell. "Jeff is giving of his time, not only to Vacation.com as an organization, but also to his peers."
