ALTOUR Acquires New York Tyree TravelNovember 5, 2009 By: George Dooley
ALTOUR continued its expansion with the acquisition of Tyree Travel, based on Long Island, New York. Tyree offers both leisure and corporate travel services and joins ALTOUR, today one of the leaders in worldwide luxury travel and one of the largest independent travel management companies. The move will expand ALTOUR’s New York presence.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Tyree Travel,” said Alexandre Chemla, ALTOUR’s founder and owner. “Like ALTOUR, they have an exceptional staff and a history of giving back to the community. Jackie Kos is well known on Long Island as an exceptional individual who leads by example. Tyree Travel’s philosophy and values are very much in harmony with our own. We are very pleased to welcome them to the ALTOUR family.”
Tyree Travel is owned by Jackie Kos, and is known for its dedication to clients and its long history of involvement with local charities, having been founded on the premise of donating all of its profit to worthy causes.
Launched in 1987 by Jackie’s mother, Barbara Tyree, the agency is located in Old Bethpage, NY. Tyree Travel focuses on providing a high level of personal attention to clients, drawing from a very experienced base of corporate and leisure agents. Among the causes supported by the agency are the Madonna Heights School and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
The Tyree family’s support, in particular, of the Madonna Heights School, predates the agency’s founding. Since 1973, they have been donating and raising funds in a wide variety of ways. Says Kos “the Tyree family’s dedication to Madonna Heights is due to the school’s ability to provide a spirit of hope to the most vulnerable among us.”
Industry veteran Alexandre Chemla established ALTOUR in 1991. The agency has grown to over $850 million in sales and ranks among the largest agencies serving the luxury and mid-market travel niches. ALTOUR has 63 offices and more than 1,000 travel professionals throughout the United States and in Europe.
Complementing its core travel management business, ALTOUR has developed a family of companies including Altour Limousine, Altour Air, Altour Travel Master, Altour Incentive Management, and Altour Management Technology.
In 2009, ALTOUR signed a joint program with American Express Travel. The agreement is designed to strengthen and expand services for American Express U.S. Representative Travel Network and ALTOUR’s travelers around the globe.
