Dan Smith to Represent NACTA on ASTA Board

dan smithDan Smith has been elected to serve another term as the National Association of Career Travel Agents' (NACTA) representative on the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Board of Directors.

Smith has owned his own travel agency for 20 years—Travel By Dan in Seattle, Wash.—and has traveled extensively in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America. He also spent 17 years with United Airlines.

Smith has represented the 1,800 members of NACTA for the past year and a half on the ASTA board, supporting NACTA president Ann van Leeuwen

In addition to representing NACTA on the ASTA Board, Dan is also the current Pacific Northwest (PNW) NACTA Chapter Director. Initially the PNW chapter started with 20 members but the chapter grew to 65 members over the past few years, NACTA said.

Smith was chosen to again represent NACTA in elections held in August at the national and chapter levels. The ASTA Board of Directors convenes on Sept. 14 at the start of the ASTA Global Convention (AGC) to elect the new Chairman of the Board for 2014-2015. The new board then takes office at the conclusion of the AGC on Sept. 21, NACTA said.

NACTA represents independent contractors, outside sales agents, cruise and tour oriented agents, group oriented travel consultants and traditional ARC-appointed travel agencies that support them.
