American Cruise Lines' newest cruise ship, Independence, launched November 4. After emerging from construction at Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp. in Salisbury, MD, it will be the fifth ship for American Cruise Lines when it is added to the fleet in August of 2009.

Independence will have increased capabilities and will operate year-round with itineraries to New England, Caribbean, Florida Keys, and the Pacific Ocean. The new ship will accommodate 104 passengers, and 80 percent of the staterooms and suites will include private balconies. It will also include active wing stabilizers, spacious lounges, exercise equipment and more.  Every stateroom will have large opening picture windows plus satellite TV, DVD players and Internet access.
