The Queen of the West, from river cruise company American Cruise Lines, recently completed its first voyage after undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. Sailing out of Portland, OR, on the Columbia and Snake rivers, the paddlewheel-propelled riverboat provides passengers with a cruising experience that hearkens back to the golden age of river travel. Unlike the steam-driven riverboats of yesteryear, however, this paddlewheeler is powered by environmentally friendly biodegradable hydraulic oil.
“Our goal was to make a great riverboat even greater and to maximize the comfort and amenities available to our passengers,” said Timothy Beebe, vice president of American Cruise Lines. “Now enhanced due to various renovations, Queen of the West truly fits the bill as a member of the industry’s newest fleet and we look forward to continuing to provide the most unique and enjoyable cruises on the Columbia and Snake Rivers.”
The new Queen of the West features added private balconies, a new library on the third deck and updated interior décor. American Cruise Lines has reduced the capacity of the ship from 150 to 120 in order to accommodate expanded staterooms for a more comfortable guest experience.
American Cruise Lines is also on schedule to roll out the Queen of the Mississippi on the Mississippi River in August 2012.
