Carnival Corp. Signs for New P&O Cruise Ship

January 3, 2007 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor

Carnival Corp. on Wednesday announced it signed a letter of intent for a new 116,000-ton ship for its U.K.-based P&O Cruises brand. The new vessel, being built in Italy by Fincantieri and scheduled for delivery in spring 2010, will have 3,076 lower-passenger berths at an estimated all-in cost of $705 million. Carnival says the ship will be similar to P&O Cruises' Ventura, slated to enter service in spring 2008. The announcement brings Carnival Corp.'s ship order tally to 20, 14 of which are being constructed by Fincantieri. The new P&O build will push back the delivery of the 130,000-ton new build for Carnival Cruise Lines announced last month, from summer 2010 to spring 2011.
