CLIA Touts 12 Health Benefits of Cruising

The 2014 American Cruise Market Profile Survey polled households in the U.S. and Canada and found that travelers rank ocean cruises as the best overall vacation.

Cruise Lines International Association has rounded up 12 benefits from cruise vacations. Take a look.

  1. Sunshine—Cruise ships allow plenty of time to soak up sunshine. CLIA cited third party research saying that getting sunshine in the morning helps to tune individual’s internal clocks.

  2. Relaxation— Cruises are stress-free with planned itineraries and activities like spa treatments and lounging by the pool. Citing third party research CLIA explains that chronic stress can lead to several health problems.

  3. Cleanliness— According to CLIA, each room and common areas on cruises are regularly sanitized and crew members are urged to wash their hands frequently.

  4. Ocean Air— Fresh air helps aid digestion, improve heart rate, strengthen the immune system and more, according to third party research collected by CLIA.  

  5. Salt Water— Guests have regular access to the benefits of salt water both on the ship in salt water swimming pools and on the beaches.

  6. Camaraderie— CLIA and third party research explains that humans innately want to connect with each other, and guests can connect with other travelers during activities like dining and live shows.

  7. Exploration— Cruises give passengers a chance to do several activities like diving, parasailing and sight-seeing without spending months planning.

  8. Healthy Dining Options— Cruise ships can accommodate dietary needs like gluten-fee, vegan and more, as well as serve well-rounded meals.

  9. Staying Active— Cruises offers passengers a chance to play table tennis, rock climb, go to the gym and more.      

  10. Meditation— There is time to think and clear the mind on cruise ships. CLIA cited third party research that explains that meditation has been found to reduce stress and negative emotions.

  11. Stress Free Vacation Planning— With pre-planned excursions, inclusive meals and on-board activities there is little planning needed, said CLIA.

  12. Better Budget Value— CLIA explains that cruises are a all-inclusive way to travel without hidden fees.
