Cunard to Add New Fuel Supplement

May 4, 2010 By: Kirk Cassels

When we were having some fun this morning, asking readers at our Facebook page what they think Princess Cruises' two new ships should be named, Lauren Terner Simon, an agent and fan of our page, shared some interesting news: she just received a letter that Cunard Line and P&O (UK) will add a new supplement for upcoming itineraries. So we followed up and contacted Jackie Chase of Cunard Line to get verification.

Chase shared the following note:

Following global increases in the price of fuel, Cunard Line and P&O Cruises will be introducing a fuel supplement for all new bookings made from 10 May 2010. The supplement will apply to all departures from 1 November 2010 across both of these brands.

The supplement will be $3.85 per person per day, up to a maximum of $154.00 per person.

The supplement will apply to every paying passenger travelling, including 3rd and 4th person fares and paid children’s accommodation.

As an agent, what's your take on this? Is this a direct effect of the current oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico? After a nearly two-year absence, do you expect other cruise lines to add or re-instate fuel supplements? Will this encouarge clients to make last-minute cruise bookings?

We know that's a lot of questions to ask all at once, but we want to hear from you. Write us on our Facebook page. Send a tweet to our Twitter page. Join the discussion thread at AgentNation. Post a comment below.

We'll share your responses with our readers.
