Cunard Prepares for the Royal Wedding

Although Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 will be at sea during the Royal Wedding that takes place tomorrow, April 29, its officers and crew have already prepared the vessel to celebrate the nuptial of Prince William to Catherine Middleton in grand style.

As guests embarked for the ship’s first Eastbound crossing of the 2011 trans-Atlantic season, the officers and crew readied the ship for such celebration activities as a viewing party in the Royal Court Theatre; a Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea service; a celebration dinner and commemorative menu; a royal champagne toast to the bride and groom; and a Royal Wedding Ball in the Queens Room Ballroom.

It seems rather appropriate that Cunard would celebrate the Royal Wedding in such grandeur: Cunard’s association with the British Royal Family dates back to 1859, when Queen Victoria bestowed the title of Baronet to Samuel Cunard, founder of Cunard Line, for his services to the country during the Crimean War.  Since then, eight Cunard liners have been named by senior members of the Royal Family—four by Queen Elizabeth II alone.
