Fathom's Soft Launch Cruise to Dominican Republic Cancelled

fathomFathom, Carnival Corp.'s new social impact cruise line, cancelled its soft launch April 11 due to a delay by a series of routine tests being performed by the U.S. Coast Guard. The 710-passenger Adonia was scheduled to leave Sunday for a seven-night cruise to the Dominican Republic

According to a statement from fathom, the ship arrived in Miami directly from dry dock and re-fit offshore and underwent rigorous operational tests with the U.S. Coast Guard that took longer than expected. The company has learned additional testing will be required and as a result must cancel the soft-launch sailing.

"We very much regret the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused our guests," fathom said. "All guests are being provided full reimbursement of expenses and credits toward future cruises."

This week’s sailing was designed as a soft launch sailing run to help finalize preparation in advance of the official inaugural Fathom sailing on April 17. The official inaugural Fathom sailing will depart on April 17 as scheduled, fathom said.
