Holland America Cancels Noordam's Tunis Call, Citing Security

October 9, 2014 By: Susan Young

noordamOn Oct. 8, the captain of Holland America Line’s Noordam sent a letter to passengers sailing on the ship’s current Mediterranean voyage, stating: “I want to make you aware that, for security reasons, we have decided to cancel our scheduled call at Tunis, Tunisia, on Oct. 11, and will be replacing it with a call to Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy.”

Captain Jeroem van Donselaar told guests that if they’d purchased any shore excursions for Tunis, the line would post a credit to their onboard account. Guests also will receive a credit for any port taxes and related fees applied for Tunis.

The captain expressed regret about the change in port call, but said that the safety and security of guests was the line’s top priority. He also assured guests the rest of the itinerary would remain the same.

Holland America Line's public relations office confirmed the cancelled port call but provided no additional information.
