The Share the Adventure Cruise, a joint cruise between Holland America Line and O, The Oprah Magazine, set sail last week for a trip from Seattle to Alaska.
Having taken off on Saturday, July 15, guests aboard the ms Eurodam sat in on a presentation by Oprah Winfrey herself, entitled “A Conversation with Oprah,” where she shared her journey to success. She also expressed her desire for the cruise to be “the start of something meaningful” for guests on board, the press release said.
There were more presentations from O, The Oprah Magazine editor-in-chief Lucy Kaylin and editor-at-large Gayle King entitled “The Making of O,” where they took guests behind-the-scenes of the 17-year-old award-winning magazine, explaining how they “bring the pages to life.”
SuperSoul 100 members Angela Davis, a fitness “evangelist,” India.Arie, a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, and Glennon Doyle, former-addict-turn-success-story, also gave their own presentations or performances where they spoke about their personal, motivational stories.
Kaylin and books editor Leigh Haber both led conversations with Pulitzer Prize-winner and New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Strout for the inaugural O’s Reading Room and creative director Adam Glassman shared fashion trends and practical styling tips in a talk entitled “Love That!”
During the week, guests could also participate in meditation with yoga instructor Sara Ivanhoe, eat well with Impatient Foodie founder Elettra Wiedemann and walk in a 5k on deck to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research with Victoria, British Columbia breast cancer survivor Jayne Jamison, the senior vice president, publisher and chief revenue officer at O, The Oprah Magazine. The guests who participated in the cancer walk, the release said, raised more than $10,500 for five international cancer organizations.
Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line, said that this first cruise in the partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, was “tremendous” – “… the energy and inspirational atmosphere on Eurodam was felt by all and truly something special,” he said in the release.
The Share the Adventure cruise was one of several special cruises with the cruise line and O, The Oprah Magazine. There will be four more Adventure of Your Life cruises with SuperSoul 100 members setting sail on November 29, 2017; March 3, 2018; August 11, 2018; and October 28, 2018.
