Hurtigruten continues to expand its popular Norwegian Coastal Voyages, offering new themed Expedition Style Voyages and Vintage Era Voyages for the upcoming 2016-17 season, as well as a new a la carte menu.
The new offerings were highlighted in the line’s 2016-17 Coastal Norway brochure, which includes voyage and land opportunities, along with more than 45 optional excursions to help personalize sailings for each guest. The Coastal Norway itineraries include stops at 34 ports of call between the cultural center of Bergen and Kirkenes, north of the Arctic Circle.
Hurtigruten’s new Expedition Style Voyages will be available on the MS Nordkapp, MS Nordnorge and MS Nordlys, and include a full onboard expedition team offering opportunities for learning and discovery for more active travelers. Additionally, guests will have access to “expedition” style on board activities, lectures, and daily discussions, as well as specialty hikes with guides who provide expert insights into Norway’s wildlife, geography and culture. These itineraries are available year-round, with activities and excursions created specifically for the season.
The line is also introducing its new Vintage Era Voyages in 2016, which takes place aboard the MS Lofoten, the oldest ship in Hurtigruten’s fleet. Guests will be taken “back in time”, as the vessel has been fully restored to its 1960s vintage décor, offering several lounges, a separate panorama deck, and “old style” dining menu served from silver platters. Guests can join activities and excursions not available on regular coastal sailings including fishing from the deck, trivia, auctions and a special ice swimming excursion. Also, because the MS Lofoten is smaller than other Hurtigruten ships, the vessel will visit all 34 ports on the Classic Coastal Voyages route, as well as several other ports.
The Classic Coastal Voyages run round trip between Bergen, a UNESCO-listed harbor city, to the extreme northern city of Kirkenes. Guests will have the opportunity to visit sites including the Art Nouveau city of Ålesund; the royal city of Trondheim; the Lofoten Islands; Tromsø, the capital of Arctic Norway; and Hammerfest, the world’s northernmost town.
