International Expeditions to Launch New Amazon Riverboat

amazonInternational Expeditions will launch its new riverboat — already under construction in Peru — on the Amazon River in summer 2013. This new vessel will offer travelers a range of amenities and “extras” including private balconies for every cabin, multimedia lecture room, fitness center, kayaks, a nightly reception with complimentary Peruvian cocktails, wine and beer and the Amazon’s largest observation deck — more than 1,000 square feet.

International Expeditions’ new riverboat will offer accommodations for a maximum of 31 guests in 15 outward-facing cabins. Each cabin measures approximately 220 square feet and will feature furniture hand-crafted by Peruvian artisans, native handicrafts and textiles from Amazonian tribes and river villages and private baths. Private balconies for each cabin are equipped with a cushioned chair and ceiling fan.

The new riverboat has yet to be named, and as part of the build-up to the launch of the new vessel, IE asked past Amazon travelers to vote for their favorite ship name.

Pricing for 10-day expedition cruises aboard International Expeditions’ new riverboat starts at $4,398, and includes daily naturalist-guided excursions; complimentary laundry service while onboard boat; nightly receptions with complimentary wine and beer; most meals; transfers; pre-cruise accommodations at Lima’s Swissôtel; post-tour dayroom; tours of Colonial Lima and Iquitos; services of an experienced expedition leader and two local naturalist guides.
