Le Boat to Offer Cruises to Cuisery, France

Le Boat is now offering a Three Regions Cruise that takes guests to the famed book village of CuiseryFrance. The self-driven voyage departs from Branges to Gray and allows seven to 14 nights to take in architectural heritage dating back to the Renaissance, Middle Ages, Gallo-Roman, and Celtic periods.

The new itinerary promises books galore, as well as an exploration of history and wine in the hills of Burgundy, France. If guests are there on the first Sunday of the month they’ll get to experience a book market Cuisery, but there is still plenty else to do if they cannot plan their trip at that time, Le Boat said.

The town of Cuisery is filled with shops known for their rare book collections, comics, illuminated manuscripts, and other one-of-a-kind collectibles. The locals host short story competitions, poetry readings, and literary meetings that guests can experience firsthand. Also, in the summer guests can visit a workshop called “Espace Gutenberg” where they print on a 15th century Gutenberg Press.

If guests prefer music over literature, the town also has a strong vinyl records business and hosts plenty of summer concerts as well.

The reason the small town became the unique book village that it is dates back to the 1990s, when Cuisery had a chronic shop closure problem. To deal with this issue, the locals offered the empty stores to book sellers and book craftspeople, thus creating the haven of literature that it is today.

Accompanying the book-lovers experience is a visit to wine country in Burgundy. Many of the region’s vineyards have been given UNESCO World Heritage status in recognition of their rich history of viticulture and diversity of the soils.
