Man Missing from RCI Ship

Daniel DiPiero, Augusta, GA, was reported missing Monday from Royal Caribbean International's Mariner of the Seas, and U.S. and Bahamian authorities conducted an air and sea search on Tuesday for him but he was not found. Royal Caribbean also conducted a search of the ship and its private isle, Coco Cay. The Voyager-class ship was carrying 3,351 passengers and a crew of 1,223 when it left Port Canaveral, Florida. DiPiero was part of a party of seven onboard, and a security camera showed him outside alone on a portion of the deck, standing at the ship's railing and also reclining in a deck chair between 12:12 a.m. and 2:16 a.m. Searchers focused on the area west of Grand Bahama, where the ship was at that time, said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer James Judge. A Coast Guard ship and aircraft are continuing the search, and the FBI is to board the ship Wednesday in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to investigate.
